M. L. Brown is the author of Call It Mist, winner of the 3 Mile Harbor Book Award, 2018. She is also the author of Drought, winner of the Claudia Emerson Poetry Chapbook Award, published by jmww in April, 2016.  A poet and book artist, Ms. Brown grew up in New Hampshire and earned a BA from Connecticut College and an MFA from Antioch University, Los Angeles. Her poems have  appeared in numerous journals and anthologies and won prizes from the Poetry Society of NH and The Daphne Project.

Ms. Brown has worked as an advocate for women’s reproductive health,  translator from Russian to English,  cook in a vegetarian restaurant, dancer, and small press editor. When not writing, she devotes her time to raising funds for Planned Parenthood. She lives in Santa Barbara, CA with her husband and their dozen fruit trees.
